Stomp, the long-running off-Broadway experience, may be coming to a movie theater near you. According to Variety, the show will be filmed for a large-format movie, Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey, to be shown at IMAX and other theaters housing large-format screens.
Stomp is a high-energy, percussive symphony, coupled with dance, played entirely on non-traditional instruments, such as garbage can lids, buckets, brooms and sticks. Stomp continues to enjoy a successful run off-Broadway, where it opened in 1994.
The film will be directed by Stomp creators Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, who previously filmed the show for a 1997 HBO special. Like the stage production, the movie will focus on rhythmic performances. Special attention will be paid to performers from different regions of the world.
Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey will be distributed to theaters next year.
